As far as fun EASY Halloween crafts go these Halloween decoupage lanterns from Taste of Home are pretty high on the list! My family made these last year and and I think we will continue to make some each year! Not only are these easy but they are inexpensive and the possibilities are endless! Younger children they can help by placing Halloween or fall stickers on the dried jars! We even tried one using dried leaves we collected on a Fall walk! These can be made for any holiday or season, too. Simply use different colored tissue paper and seasonal decorative touches!
Also, since my two year old loves to grab these and play with them almost daily, we purchased a pack of battery powered tea light candles to eliminate fire and burn hazards! They work just as great as real tea lights and even flicker just as the real ones do! These would make wonderful gifts for friends, neighbors, family, teachers, anyone!
Get in the Halloween spirit by making these cute lanterns—they’re so easy that kids can help.
- Choose jars in various sizes (we used leftover pickle and spaghetti sauce jars).
- Brush a coat of decoupage glue and sealant, such as Mod Podge (available at craft stores), all over the jar.
- Cover the entire jar, including the neck and bottom, with a layer of tissue paper.
For the pumpkin jar, we cut the tissue paper into strips and laid them vertically over the jar. Slather the tissue paper with another layer of Mod Podge and wrap a decorative ribbon around the neck.
Print out the spooky and happy faces attasteofhome.com/lantern (pdf), or you can design your own. Cut them out and use more decoupage glue to affix them on the jar. Insert a tea light candle, and you’ve got a Halloween decoration that will outlast any pumpkin.
