There is just something about the foods you grow up with. Something that makes them better than any other foods. Maybe its the memories tied with the taste and smell of those foods that just make your heart happy. Whatever it is, my most favorite thing to do is serve those foods to my husband and babies the way my mom and grandma served them to me. Even better yet, is making those recipes with my daughter. Though she is only two, I have her in the kitchen with me “helping” every single day, no matter what I’m doing. I like to think there will be a time she will look back and cherish all of our times together in the kitchen and someday create those same memories with her children. I treasure my family’s recipes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, and take the time to create those beloved memories with your loved ones!
Grandma Pat’s Old Fashioned Banana Bread
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas
1/2 cup nuts
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup buttermilk (milk+1 TBSP lemon juice or vinegar)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Cream together butter and sugar. Blend in bananas, eggs and vanilla. Add flour, salt and baking soda. Add milk and nuts last. Bake in 9x5x3 bread pan at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours (less for small loves). If top browns too quickly, tent with aluminum foil.
