Removing the skin from tomatoes or peaches is so easy, but something not every knows how to do. This is ideal for canning and preserving. If you are going to can your tomatoes, salsa, pizza sauce, or spaghetti sauce it’s important you remove the skins first so the skin doesn’t become tough and stringy.
First, wash your tomatoes. And bring a large pot of water to a boil. Fill a large bowl with ice and cold water.
Then, using a sharp knife, make an X on the top of your tomato. Don’t make it very deep, just enough to puncture the surface.
Gently place the tomatoes in the boiling water, a few at a time, for 30 seconds.
Remove the tomatoes from the pan using a slotted spoon and place them directly into the ice water. Leave them in for a minute or two, you want to completely stop the cooking process.
Once the tomatoes are cooled, peel the skin from the tomato or squeeze gently and it will slide right off, so easily.
If you want to remove the seeds and watery insides, cut the tomatoes in half and squeeze each half and it will come right out.
For removing the skin from peaches, it’s exactly the same!
