As I previously mentioned, our family took a trip to our local pick-your-own farm and spent the day in the great outdoors indulging ourselves in all the produce they had to offer. We left with a whopping 40 apples and our home has since been filled with the enchanting scent of apples and cinnamon cooking day and night!
With the holidays quickly approaching, I’m really excited to share this recipe with you because it would make a perfect homemade gift! I’ve decided this year we are giving all homemade and handmade gifts and this one is perfect! A loaf of bread and a jar of homemade apple butter?! Who wouldn’t love to receive that! Plus, since this is a crockpot recipe it really couldn’t be any easier! Perfect!
Crockpot Apple Butter
5 1/2 pounds apples – peeled, cored, and finely chopped
4 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
Place the apples in a crockpot. In a medium bowl mix the sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and salt. Pour the mixture over the apples in the crockpot and stir well.
Cover and cook on high 1 hour.
Reduce heat to low and cook 9-12 hours, stirring occasionally until the mixture is thickened and dark brown.
Uncover and continue cooking on low 1 hour. Stir with a whisk, if desired, to increase smootheness.
Spoon the mixture into sterile containers, cover and refrigerate or freeze.
